Services
Strategic Communications and Media Relations
Your communications program can be a powerful tool for advancing your organizational goals or navigating an unexpected challenge. I start by working with you to understand your real world objectives, the audiences you need to reach, and the story they need to hear. I’ll help you craft the right message, develop a comprehensive communications plan and calendar, and identify the metrics to measure success — and I’ll work with your team every step of the way to get the job done. Through more than 15 years as a public spokesperson, I've worked closely with reporters across the country and around the world, and I've developed customized proactive and rapid response programs for companies, nonprofits, campaigns, and senior government leaders.
Media Training
Effective interviewing is a skill that can be learned and developed. Just like in any other field, the people who “make it look easy” are the ones who put in the work to get to that level. From live television interviews to deep background conversations, I can help you understand media interactions and give you the tools you’ll need to get your message out to the world.
Executive Communications
From interview preparation to comprehensive thought leadership strategies, I help senior leaders and spokespeople make the most of any opportunity. I’ve helped startup executives, members of Congress, cabinet officials, and even the president to prepare for interviews, speeches, or public events. I’ll set you up with proven strategies to succeed in the spotlight.
Capacity Building
Whether you have new team members who could use guidance while they’re getting up to speed or you just need an extra pair of hands to help out with a complex project, I work with companies, nonprofits, and communications firms to meet their capacity needs.
About Clark
Clark Pettig is a communications and public affairs strategist who has spent more than 15 years helping government leaders, political campaigns, nonprofits, and private sector companies overcome their toughest communications challenges.
As press secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation in the Obama administration, Clark managed national and international media events and rollout campaigns supporting an ambitious policy agenda. Prior to that, he served as a communications strategist and spokesperson for multiple members of Congress during debates over health care, education, labor, and clean energy.
In 2017, Clark helped launch the government watchdog group American Oversight, where he served as the head of communications and external affairs. In that role, he helped to establish the organization's national profile as a leading voice in government accountability and he managed communications around high-profile ethics and transparency litigation in federal and state courts.
As a consultant at two communications and public affairs firms, Clark has worked with clients ranging from high-growth startups to Fortune 100 companies to develop winning campaigns that address regulatory challenges, mobilize public opinion, and engage with policymakers.
Clark first honed his skills in the fast-paced world of political campaigns. He ran communications for President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign in the battleground states of Michigan and Virginia, and before that, was the spokesperson and communications advisor for multiple congressional races in swing districts.
Clark began his career as a documentary filmmaker, learning how to craft compelling narratives and tell stories that connect with audiences. Now based in the Washington, D.C. area, he’s carried that experience with him to help his clients identify, develop, and tell the stories that matter most to them.
